The CSB (in)Courage Devotional Bible

November 18, 2018

(I was given a free copy of the CSB (in)courage Devotional Bible from FrontGate Media for the purpose of review. No monetary compensation was given. The opinions in this post are entirely my own. If you would like, you can read my complete Disclosure Policy.)

I am not an artsy creative person, at least not with pictures. So when I started seeing those beautiful art journaling Bibles, I just had to sigh with longing.

I am, however, a lover of words. And now there is a devotional Bible for me, and people like me!

The CSB (in)courage Devotional Bible is a unique devotional Bible that is packed full of amazing extras to go along with the text of the Christian Standard Bible.

The CSB (in)courage Devotional Bible invites every woman to find her story within the greatest story ever told—God’s story of redemption.

As you study God’s Word, 122 women from the (in)courage community come alongside you with 312 devotions, sharing stories of how God’s story has changed their lives. Because of His grace, they have found beauty in the brokenness and hope in the hard. With each devotion, they sing the praise of the One who has authored their story.

Of course, one of the features I am most excited about is all the journaling space–with lines for words! I can also use the lines for writing notes about what I’m reading and studying. No more squishing notes in the tiny margins.

Another special feature of this Bible is the Devotional Theme Guide.

There are ten devotional themes, each with their own reading plan, devotions, and “women of courage” in Scripture–all color-coded in order to easily follow the particular theme throughout the Bible.

The themes include:

  • Beautiful Brokenness
  • Better Together
  • Daily Grace
  • Everyday Leadership
  • Friendship on Purpose
  • Hope in the Hard
  • Imperfect Hospitality
  • Intentional Gratitude
  • Second Chances
  • The Scared Brave

Each book of the Bible has an introduction page, which is comprised of three sections: Understanding the Author’s Heart, Connecting with God’s Story, and Connecting with Our Story.

I am super excited about using this Bible for my personal quiet times in 2019. I try my best to read through the Bible each year, and I usually rotate versions. Reading through the Christian Standard Bible will be new for me, and I’m looking forward to it.

Now, you have an opportunity to possibly get your hands on a copy of the (in)courage Devotional Bible! Click on the picture below to enter.

Patterns of Evidence

September 2, 2017

A Documentary?

I’m not usually one to sit and watch a documentary. That is, unless the subject is one that’s really fascinating.

So when Propeller/FlyBy Promotions asked if I wanted to watch and review Patterns of Evidence: Exodus, I said yes because it sounded so interesting!

Here is just a bit about the film:

  • Won 13 awards on the film festival circuit in 2014, including a Gold Remi Award winner for Best Director at the Worldfest Houston Intl. Film Festival, the Gold Crown Award for Best Picture and Best Documentary at ICVM 2014, and Official Selection at the Soho International Film Festival in New York.

  • It includes powerful interviews with some of the top experts in the fields of archaeology and Egyptology as well as people of influence in the Middle East.

  • The film took 12 years to develop and takes a scientific approach to investigate the events of the biblical Exodus. The overall vision for this film company is to explore “patterns of evidence” that support the biblical narrative and engages the world in a conversation.

  • The film has an objective, fair-minded and balanced approach. It allows viewpoints from all sides to be heard in a respectful way while asking honest questions of the Bible and scholars’ views. It does not preach and lets the evidence speak for itself. This allows the film to be very shareable with those of different viewpoints.

I’m not going to give anything away about the evidence presented, but I will say that it is indeed done in an honest, balanced, and respectful way.

The film was one that my entire family sat down together to watch, and we had some really good family discussions about Scripture, opinion, archaeological evidence, and more. In a world of entertainment that tends to offer very little in the way of “brain food,” we were grateful to watch a film that was thought-provoking.

To find out more and watch a trailer, visit www.patternsofevidence.com. To buy the film, please visit https://store.patternsofevidence.com/collections/movies.

FlyBy Promotions has graciously allowed me to offer readers a discount code to use for $3.00 off the film, which retails at $19.95. Use the link above and then discount code: MK1.

The Apologetics Study Bible for Students

August 19, 2015

We live in a tough world. I’m pretty sure that’s not breaking news to anyone.

As Christians, understanding how to share our faith in a way that will actually be heard is an important facet of living out our relationship with Jesus. This is true for our kids as well–be they homeschooled, private schooled, or public schooled.

But the HOW of that is sometimes difficult. Fortunately, there are tools to help, and I’m very excited to tell you about one that just recently came to my attention.

The Apologetics Study Bible for Students

Multiple research studies have shown that spiritual focus often weakens among teenagers as they head into the attention-dividing realm of young adulthood. Up to 66 percent of them leave church altogether. The Apologetics Study Bible for Students works against that trend by helping anchor younger Christians in the truths of Scripture, equipping them with thoughtful and practical responses for whenever the core issues of their faith and life are challenged, while helping them better articulate their beliefs with non-believers.

Apo_eBlstSB_ApolBook_1-1
The Apologetics Study Bible for Students, besides having the complete HCSB text, includes these very cool features:

  • Two-color design-intensive layout on every page for the visual generation
  • Sixty “Twisted Scriptures” explanations (these address ways that various religious movements distort Scripture to support doctrine contrary to historic Christian teaching.)
  • Fifty “Bones & Dirt” entries (archaeology meets apologetics)
  • Fifty “Notable Quotes” (from leading Christian thinkers)
  • Twenty-five “Tactics” against common anti-Christian arguments
  • Twenty “Personal Stories” of how God has worked in real lives
  • Twenty “Top Five” lists to help remember key apologetics topics

I really liked this from the introduction:

Remember: the point of apologetics is not to win an argument but to win a person to Christ. This is so important, so let me say it again: Apologetics is not about winning arguments, but about winning people. It is possible to win an argument and yet do it in a way that damages the cause of Christ. If we make a great argument, but we don’t do it in love, then it profits us nothing (1 Co 13:1-3). We must follow the example of Jesus and be full of both grace and truth (Jn 1:14).

Along with the Bible, the ApologeticsBible.com website offers other apologetics resources such as a video series by Sean McDowell with topics like

  • “Is it ok to have doubts?”
  • “Why does God allow evil?”
  • “How do I know God’s will for my life?”
  • “Bones and Dirt: Dead Sea Scrolls”

I had a chance to watch “How do I know God’s will for my life?” and was impressed! Sean is clear, concise, engaging, and real and I believe what he has to say is right on target. Right now there are 7 videos, but eventually there will be 16! Each video is only a few minutes in length and would be a great starter for a family discussion, youth group series, or homeschool apologetics class.

While you’re on the website, be sure to check out the Confident Faith Sweepstakes they are running right now!
