This is a 6-CD set–5 of which tell the classic story, while 1 is a special features disc that contains a “Behind the Scenes” feature and a documentary entitled “Modern-Day Olivers.” It comes in a beautiful holding case with background information on Charles Dickens and members of the cast.
Honestly, I don’t think I had ever read the book Oliver Twist in its entirety before receiving this radio theatre version. I knew elements of the story and some of the characters involved, but that’s it. Sad, I know! That’s one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to review this “book” from Tyndale House
I ended up putting it off for a while because I didn’t feel like I had the time to just sit and listen. But once I started it, I didn’t want to stop! I listened while I worked on the computer, while I fixed dinner, while I got ready for bed, while I did housework, while the girls did math…and so on. And while I listened, my oldest was drawn into the story as well!
I wasn’t sure if I would like listening to a book instead of reading it, but I really did. This was my first experience with a Focus on the Family Radio Theatre story, and I was very impressed with the quality of the production. I highly recommend it!
(The legal stuff: I was given a complimentary copy of Oliver Twist by Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
