The Saturday Morning Review–Time4Learning

May 5, 2012

Recently, we were given an opportunity to try out an online education site in our homeschool. We used Time4Learning.com with our youngest for a short time, to try it out and experience some web-based classes. Here is a description of Time4Learning from their website:

Time4Learning is a technology-based online educational program that teaches preschool to eighth grade curriculum using a combination of animated lessons, interactive activities and reinforcing worksheets.

A top selection of the Homeschool.com “Top 100 Educational Websites” list year after year, the Time4Learning program has been refined through years of feedback from educators, parents, and students. The lessons are presented at the student’s pace by an automated system in a sequence designed to build strong subject literacy.

Time4Learning is a great curriculum for families who homeschool. It is also a great after school skill sharpener and is often used for remediation and test preparation. Whether mainstream, gifted, or special needs, Time4Learning provides a flexible, student-paced approach.

We used Time4Learning as a supplement to our school day rather than a complete curriculum. My daughter enjoyed the variety that the lessons provided, and the change-up from our normal books. The Language Arts sections were her favorite. They were challenging but interesting and fun.

The Math lessons were her least favorite. There were long segments of explanation by the cartoon characters that got tiring (according to her.) The History and Science lessons were engaging and she found them to be interesting.

I don’t know that we would use Time4Learning for a complete curriculum, but I believe it would make a very good supplement or summer learning tool.

(The legal stuff: We were given a free month’s subscription to Time4Learning in exchange for an honest review.)
